Stella – A History of War

Stella Andrássy was one of the first to bear witness to the sexual violence against women in war.

Stella meets Imre in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1918. Stella's granddaughter Joy Olgyay tells of their love story that causes a certain scandal.

In January 1945, the Soviet Army invades and occupies Budapest. The Andrássy family flees to Western Europe.

Stella Andrássy fled the Red Army invasion of Hungary in 1945. Born in Sweden, she married into one of Hungary's most influential families. Her world torn apart from the war she wrote a book about her experiences. The film is based on Stella's own narrative with perspective on the fate of women. She tells of abuse and suffering, but also of solidarity, courage and hope.

Stella Kuylenstierna-Andrássy, author of her memoirs, ”Fire over the Puszta” published in 1948, reflects on her family's experience during World War II.

During the Golden Years of 1920-1938, Stella's life turns out be fulfilling in many aspects. Her family is growing, she has many cultural and charity activities and social commitments, and she grows to love her new country, Hungary.
