Pearl Harbor - Into the Arizona

Brett Seymour of the National Parks Service dives to the surface of the sunken USS Arizona. Marine growth has overrun the outside of the ship, covering everything from massive gun barrels to forgotten objects.

Navigating through the blast zone of the Arizona is one of the greatest challenges for the navigation team. Half of the ship’s decks collapsed upon each other during the attack, flattened by the bomb. The ROV enters a region of the Arizona unseen since her sinking—the admiral’s cabin, stunningly preserved.

Pearl Harbor survivor Don Stratton visits the Arizona Memorial. He is one of the few men who survived the bombing of the USS Arizona. Experts from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the National Park Service prepare the ROV that will allow Don to see inside the Arizona once more.
