Direct Air Capture
Greta visits Climeworks in Hinwil, Switzerland and learns how their direct air capture plant works. Carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere and stored in rocks underground but Greta learns that these technologies cannot be the only solution to reduce global temperatures.
COVID-19's Impact on Climate
Greta speaks to Dr. Jenny Stavrakou who has been measuring carbon emissions during the COVID-19 crisis. Greta learns that emissions dropped substantially during the crisis but have risen again.
Reindeer Face Starvation
Greta meets indigenous Sami herders in Jokkmokk, Sweden. Greta learns that the change in climate is threatening their way of life. The Sami herders have been following reindeers for thousands of years but the reindeer are facing starvation due to rising temperatures. Scientists explain the effects that climate change is having on human migration globally.
Athabasca Glacier
Greta joins Professor John Pomeroy and his team who have been studying the Athabasca Glacier. Greta learns that rising temperatures as well as soot from forest fires have caused the glacier to melt faster than the models suggest.
Greta and Svante's Atlantic Crossing
Greta and Svante sail across the Atlantic Ocean battling turbulent tropical storms to reach the UN climate conference in Madrid. Scientists explain why storms are becoming worse due to global warming and what other effects increased carbon emissions are having on ocean life.
