When he learns of the suicide of a young prisoner named Yosef Morag, he’s propelled back to the past he’s tried desperately to put behind him: one year earlier Atlas was a decorated forensics officer, investigating the murder of a municipal judge named Achituv.It had been Atlas’ findings that linked Morag to the murder.

Where is Harden Deri?

Atlas goes in search of Yarden Deri, Morag's best friend who had allegedly been with him at the time of the murder but disappeared before the trial. Atlas suspects that Deri is in hiding in his old neighborhood, a working class section of South Tel Aviv, but none of the locals that Atlas questions are willing to cooperate.

Every Contact Leaves a Trace

Atlas is found beside Yarden’s body and brought in for questioning by De Langa. Atlas tells him that he suspects a link between Yarden’s murder and Achituv’s, and urges his old friend to re-open the case. De Langa is enraged by Atlas’ implication that Morag had been wrongly accused. He believes Atlas is in a manic, irrational state, and his wild appearance and poor hygiene are proof of this.

Reunion

Shelly Atlas grows worried when Eviatar is late coming home from his volunteer work as a Paramedic. She learns Atlas’ whereabouts from De Langa, who now has him under surveillance, and goes to see him at a squalid homeless encampment at the edge of the city. This is their first meeting since Atlas walked out on his family and it’s filled with rancour and pain.

Resurrection

Eager to help his father, Eviatar develops a roll of film that Yarin had given to him, and makes a surprising discovery: photographing the judge’s last days, Yarin had unknowingly caught him in the middle of a heated argument with De Langa in the judge’s own home. Eviatar heads for the homeless camp to show the photos to his father only to discover that Atlas has abandoned his caravan.

Atlas brings his hidden report to Dita, explaining that the footprint that linked Morag to the crime scene— the key piece of evidence Atlas presented at the trial, which led to Morag’s indictment— is not in the report. It only appeared in Atlas’ later files, although he can’t remember adding it. He tells Dita to bring the report to Racheli, believing it will retroactively nullify Morag’s verdict.

Atlas lurks outside De Langa’s boat and is horrified to see Shelly climb out and walk away. He doesn’t see that she’s in tears, stricken by her infidelity after a night of passionate sex with De Langa. In a rage, Atlas sneaks on board and wreaks havoc in the yacht, then cuts a length of braided cable from the ship’s mast to use as evidence, believing that it links De Langa to Yarin’s death.

Atlas wakes in a picturesque sanatorium run by Professor Mizrach, an eccentric psychiatrist with unconventional methods. Atlas immediately tries to escape, and discovers that all the doors and gates are unlocked. Nevertheless, he returns to the institute, telling Mizrach he’d come back because he couldn’t find his shoes. But Mizrach recognizes Atlas’ deep desire to unburden himself.

Homecoming

A few months have passed and Atlas has helped make Mizrach’s garden flourish. He appears calmer, more robust and rational, and is released into Shelly and Eviatar’s care. Shelly has prepared a makeshift room for him on the balcony of their apartment, and though it seems that Atlas has made a miraculous recovery, and swears he’s no longer interested in Achituv, Morag or police work in general.

Atlas and Eviatar go hunting for the elusive drunkard and after a comical cat-and-mouse-chase through Morag’s old neighborhood, manage to coax a somewhat unreliable testimony out of him. Realising his account won’t hold water, Atlas decides to confront Abulafia and get a confession directly from him.Meanwhile, Abulafia is lying in wait for Dita outside the Attorney’s office, but he’s thwarted.
