Evangelicals are a key Republican constituency, especially in the primary season, and they still appear to be up for grabs.

"It's an expression of the love for our Torah, our teachings. It's also a great way to begin the New Year," says Rabbi David Shneyer, spiritual leader of Kehila Chadasha and the Am Kolel Jewish Renewal Center of Greater Washington.

"Now we have only 5,000 Jews all over India, and in Delhi we have only five, six Indian Jewish families. We are like a drop in the ocean," says Ezekiel Malekar, keeper of Delhi's tiny synagogue.

"If anything is covered by separation of church and state, this is it," says lawyer Douglas Laycock, who argued for the Hosanna-Tabor Lutheran Church and School, and nearly 100 diverse religious groups filed briefs supporting a church's right to choose its own ministers.

Despite his having sustained serious head injuries three years ago, Father Andrew Greeley is still a priest. "We know that he is blessed, and he's blessing us, and it means a lot," says Greeley's niece, Eileen Durkin.

While the rest of the region struggles with religious tensions and political conflicts, an interfaith village in Israel where Jews and Israeli Arabs intentionally live together is trying to serve as a witness for peace.

"The government is trying to tell us what we can or can't do in terms of works of mercy, works of charity, which are fundamental to our faith," says Father Tom Ackerman of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham.

"Church groups, mosque-related groups, synagogue-related groups--it's not necessarily their mission to go and promote water security, but if it's their mission to help their neighbors, which it always is, then we're going to have to think hard about how we're going to work together," says one of the founders of Partners in Health.

"When Muslims want to respectfully dispose of a text of the Qur'an that is no longer usable, we will burn it," says Imam Jihad Turk, director of religious affairs at the Islamic Center of Southern California.

"There's a yearning in them, and that all wants to be expressed in terms of the sacred and the holy and within the context of God's presence," says Rev. Anne Abernethy, a United Church of Christ pastor and retirement community chaplain.
