306 Hollywood is a magical realist documentary of two siblings who undertake an archaeological excavation of their late grandmother’s house. They embark on a journey from her home in New Jersey to ancient Rome, from fashion to physics, in search of what life remains in the objects we leave behind.

Annette describes her sometimes rocky relationship with her husband. We also learn about her son David, and how the tapes keep her presence alive for the filmmakers.

The filmmakers create catalogs from their grandmother’s belongings, including items spanning a century of U.S. history.

First-time filmmaker Bing Liu’s documentary Minding the Gap is a coming-of-age saga of three skateboarding friends in their Rust Belt hometown. While navigating a complex relationship between his camera and his friends, Bing explores the gap between fathers and sons, between discipline and domestic abuse and ultimately that precarious chasm between childhood and becoming an adult.

We meet Grandma Gil who embarks on a two week long trip to Japan to protest the Japanese officials’ statement that it was necessary to have “comfort women” during the Japanese occupation.

We enter Grandma Adela’s community in the Philippines and meet the community of fellow survivors from the war who get together for companionship.

Grandma Gil tells her story in more detail to a group of Chinese women as part of a conference.

In Grandma Cao’s village in China, we hear from villagers about what they know of her experience. We also listen to author Zhang Shaun Bing, who has collected and published the stories of women who were victim of wartime sexual violence and rape in the book Comfort Women Survey Records.
