A national as well as Texan institution, the Grammy-winning Austin band Asleep at the Wheel has kept the Western swing flame burning with “Boogie Back to Texas,” “Choo Choo Ch’boogie” and “The Letter That Johnny Walker Read.” Still led by Ray Benson, the band taped the first regular episode (following the pilot) of Austin City Limits, and have gone on to appear eleven times.

Television doesn’t produce, direct or film itself - it takes a group of dedicated people to bring us the sound and images we love. The hardworking crew of Season 1 not only brought skill and professionalism to the creation of Austin City Limits, but also vision, breaking ground in the way music is presented on TV. Some members of the original crew continue their work on the show today.
