Legacy Giving FAQs
Here are the most common questions people ask. This is not financial or legal advice. Consult your professional advisor regarding your specific situation.
What is a will?
A will is a critical document that:
- Outlines who will receive your assets, but only for those assets passing under your will;
- Names a guardian for your minor children; and
- Designates a personal representative, someone you trust, to carry out the instructions of your will.
Together with other vital documents, your will reflects your deepest values and hopes for the future.
Does my will control the distribution of everything?
If you are like most people, your will only controls the distribution of a portion of your assets; it may not even control the majority of what you own. For example, the assets from retirement accounts, life insurance policies and many bank accounts will transfer directly to the beneficiaries you designated when you opened the account.
Why make a bequest?
Many people, as they reflect on a life well-lived, consider how they want to be remembered and what they want their legacy to be. They realize that through their will, they can create lasting social impact and tackle problems that will make a difference for generations to come.
How do I make a bequest?
A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to family, friends or Cascade PBS as part of your estate plan.
What is the "Legacy Circle?"
Cascade PBS's Legacy Circle members are people just like you who value Cascade PBS and programming that inspires lifelong learning. If you decide to include Cascade PBS as a beneficiary in your will, trust or by designating us as a beneficiary on an account, you'll become a Legacy Circle member. It's free! So, let us know!
